Baseball History -- January 26

Complete entry for January 26 is at BaseballLibrary.com HERE.

Higlighted entries:
1962
Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle sign contracts with Columbia Pictures to star in Safe at Home!, a movie that is to be shot during spring training.

Safe at Home! also starring William Frawley, Uncle Charlie from My Three Sons, so you know it was to be quality.
1932
William K. Wrigley, 70-years-old, majority owner of the Cubs since 1919, dies and is buried on Catalina Island. His only son,
Philip K. Wrigley, inherits the Cubs and the minor league Los Angeles Angels, but will leave most of the daily operations to president William Veeck.

1887
In Wheeling, WV,
Jack Glasscock and Joe Miller are locked up overnight on drunk and disorderly charges after a scuffle with police at the local opera house.

Okay. The drunk and disorderly I can believe. Ballplayers in an opera house in Wheeling, West Virginia just seems to be from a novel...and not a very good one.
