1980
The
American League's offer to buy out the remaining eight years of the Oakland A's lease at the Oakland Coliseum expires, effectively blocking the sale of the club from Charlie Finley to oil man Marvin Davis. Davis had planned to move the club to Denver, but the Oakland Coliseum Board, backed by the city council, refused the league's $4 million offer.

It's called McAfee Coliseum now. The A's are still playing there, but Cisco Field is on the way...Eventually.
1885
The Western League is officially formed, with Indianapolis, Kansas City, Cleveland, Milwaukee, Toledo, and Omaha as the original clubs. It will last until June 23rd.

Which is longer than a lot of other leagues have lasted.
