It's the first Mehring Monday of the New Year!

Featured in this week's column:

Also, my true feelings for Pamela Hensley are revealed along with my cursory knowledge about baseball as presented through the lens of two classic Science Fiction television shows.

Kernels...Attention, Kernels...Get on this bandwagon

I don't give advice often to other teams in the Midwest League....What? I don't!

But, if I were the Cedar Rapids Kernels, this guy would be a bobblehead so fast it would make your head pop.

Cedar Rapids native Michael Emerson wins Emmy for Supporting Actor

Apparently he is an actor on this series called Lost. I think that I watched five minutes of an episode once. But, the people around the office that watch it seem to like it.

He was also the villain in Phantom, one of the best early episodes of Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

No charge, Kernels. No charge.

Why not?

'Man vs. Food' host Adam Richman will attend Whitecaps game to tackle Fifth Third Burger
The West Michigan Whitecaps' Fifth Third Burger, which has drawn worldwide attention, will be featured on the Travel Channel's "Man vs. Food."

The show's host, Adam Richman, will attend the Whitecaps' July 15 game at Fifth Third Ballpark against the Peoria Chiefs to shoot an episode of eating the Fifth Third Burger that will be aired at a later date.

Mickey Graham, the Whitecaps' director of marketing and media relations, said he thinks Richman might try to break the record of eating a Fifth Third Burger, which is 17 minutes.
Read on at the link and see video of Mr. Richman in action.

This reminds me. Travel Channel needs to bring Three Sheets back to the airwaves.

And here we go...

This is just a reminder...12-day road trip starts today...in about an hour actually.

Sorry about not having anything fresh this morning, but laundry and a series of Da Vinci naps...Hold on, I'll explain to the non-Seinfeld viewers.
Kramer opens the door and leans in.

KRAMER: Hey everybody. (to Jerry) Listen, uh, do me a favor, will you? I got a hot date tonight with Connie. Knock on my door, wake me up in twenty minutes, alright?

JERRY: Catnap?

KRAMER: No, no, no, no. (comes in) This is evolutionary. I been reading this book, on Leonardo de Vinci. See, that means 'from Vinci', d'you know that?

JERRY: (deadpan) That must be some book.

KRAMER: Yeah, well, turns out that the master slept only twenty minutes every three hours. Now, that works out to two and a half extra days, that I'm awake per week, every week. Which means, if I live to be eighty, I will have lived the equivalent of a hundred and five years.

JERRY: Just imagine how much more you'll accomplish.

KRAMER: Oh, I got a lot of things in the hopper, buddy.
Long story short....I'll be updating the blog from the hotel later today. TO THE BUS!!!

Instead of Motivation

It's been a rough couple of days for Columbo villians.

Patrick McGoohan, who was the killer on four episodes that I can remember, and Ricardo Montalban , who was a bullfighter trying to get away with murder in Mexico, both have recently died.

I tried finding a baseball clip on youtube for each and I struck gold.

It's a promo for ABC Saturday shows programs in about 1978. Stick through the What's Happening?, Operation Petticoat, and The Love Boat with Jim Nabors and Dihann Carroll. You will see brief clips of a Fantasy Island episode in which Gary Burghoff strikes out Steve Garvey with a little help from Mr. Roarke's Island.

There can be only one

...or two posts today.

Posting is a little late today and I may be a bit distracted during the next couple of minutes. You see, there is a Highlander marathon on TV right now. It's from the first season, but it is good to see Duncan MacLeod of the clan MacLeod back on TV again.

I must have one

So, I finally got around to watching the premier of the US version of Life on Mars. Pretty good and I'll give it a chance. As far as what I must have.....Take a look at the mustache Michael Imperioli grew for his role as a NYC Police detective, circa 1973.

I think that I already have the suit jacket, shirt, and tie. I know that I already have the gray. Next step, mustache.
