A place to follow the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, the Midwest League, Minor League baseball, Major League Baseball, and everything in between in that order.
Sorry for running mostly silent the last few days. #1.) I've been busy at the ballpark. #2.) There just isn't a whole heck of a lot out there.
This should change once the pitchers and catchers report this week.
To make up for the lack of posts, here is one post with lots of volume. Or, at least links to a lot of the stories that I have been working on this week.
There have been some changes since the last time we did the Kids club, so click on each club for more information and entry forms.
By the way, congratulations to a young Rattler fan from Stevens Point. He is the first member of the Kids Crew. And I am guessing that he is the son of a long-time Rattler Radio reader from Stevens Point. But, that is just a guess...Right, Erik?
In a semi-non-related Timber Rattlers link, Chris Bosio was the guest of Brett Christopherson, the erstwhile Timber Rattlers Beat Writer at the Post Crescent.
Bos has some great stories. On involves his first bullpen at major league camp with a strangely attired Ted Simmons doing the catching...and smoking...
Plus, an unnamed blogger won a wing party at The Clubhouse just for knowing Bosio's uniform number.
It was easy to remember. Short story, I interned at LAZER 103 (Now, THE HOG) in Milwaukee during the summer of 1988. Bos was a frequent guest of Bob and Brian. I started work at 10am, just when Bob and Brian would be wrapping up their morning show. If there was a late-model luxury car in the lot with the vanity plates 'BOS 29' it was pretty clear that Chris Bosio was in the house.
Back to the Sports for Lunch today. Bosio has some interesting comments how he handled Manny Parra's trip down to Nashville last year. Bosio was the pitching coach of the Sounds when that happened during 2010.
Then, click on 'Menu' in the lower right hand corner. Click 'Browse On-Demand Library'. Then, select 'Live Show Tue Feb 16 2010'. It's a little over an hour.
Two of my early in the week pieces for the website are available.
Today's The Interrogation Room is a talk with Bill Smith, the current GM of the Minnesota Twins. At one point, early in his career, he was the GM of the Appleton Foxes.
Mehring Monday takes a look at past Opening Ceremonies for the Olympics with the main focus being memorable ways the Olympic Flame was lit.
I think that I just said something like: Six am bus departure times and 4pm game times are not conducive to being productive.
But there is nothing quite like the adrenaline rush you get when you wake up in your recliner without an alarm going off and wondering if that is a five or a six on the digital clock on the other side of the room
Unless it's the adrenaline rush you get when you are trying to figure out if you left your cell phone charger on the table at home, on the desk at work, or if it is safely packed somewhere in your briefcase but you just can't get to it to find out for sure.....
Enough about me...A short day of posting today. Sorry, but game time is in two hours.
Hi. Remember me? Blogger, announcer, living vicariously through himself?
The last few days have been a perfect storm of blogging prevention. Between a day game yesterday, a 12-game road trip for which to pack, a Tuesday staff meeting day, a speaking engagement to the Grand Chute Kiwanis in about 20 minutes, and taping the latest edition of Timber Rattler Field Pass...there has been a lot to do. Plus, I need about two hours every night to let my batteries recharge...If I were human, it would be called sleep.
Also, in answer to Eric in the comments below...It doesn't have to be Monday for it to be a Mehring Monday. In my world -- or at least the one my programmers have made for me -- everyday is Monday.
Maybe look for a Mehring Monday over at the main site on Wednesday or Thursday. Plus, since next Monday is a holiday and I have another day game along with a bus ride to Dayton from Beloit, Mehring Monday next week will probably be celebrated on Tuesday or Wednesday next week.
Thank you to Helen for chiming in late in the game with an e-mail. I did not know that I was off the air to start the bottom of the ninth inning. This was not a planned break. Trust me.
I am using some new equipment this year and it decided that the top of the ninth inning would be a good time to take a...I mean reset itself.
The folks in the studio covered with some commercials until the equipment reconnected with the station.
Believe it or not, that is not the first time a Timber Rattler broadcast had that happen in the bottom of the ninth inning. It was...oh, geez. Look at the time. I'll try to post it tomorrow morning...yes, I said morning.
The Kid has to read something at work before lunch.
In closing, I apologize for the equipment. It would say something, but I am making it spend the night in its box so it behaves tomorrow.
Just head over to Brew Crew Ball are around noon. That's when voting begins for Prospect #7 in the Brewer minor league system.
Note for The Kid: Cutter Dykstra was in the running for #6. So, if you didn't stuff the ballot box...er, pad the vote totals yesterday...today is your day.
Thursday Motivation follows and that will be it for the day.
Sorry. I thought that there was a bit more that I would be able to update as far as news goes. But, I guess those two prospect updates were it. Maybe tomorrow.
For now, I'll just semi-borrow an idea from The Daily Drink and pop in a music video. But, it's not a random one...like the Mr. Mister one Dan dropped in there this morning at the morning of the Morning Coffee post. I'll get you for that Walsh!
Instead here is a Pete Townshend song off White City: A Novel. I have this LP and still put it on the turntable once in awhile. This track is on the CD version...which I don't have and can't find in stores. Maybe I should try this internet thing for shopping.
I'll put some posts up later this weekend. Just needed the day yesterday and today. Back strong tomorrow. I promise! Either before or after the Packer-Bear game. That will give plenty to look at on Monday for those who spent precious company time scanning the internet.
Apologies to those in the trailer court who may read Rattler Radio. I don't know why but the end of yesterday's Packer game got me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry. Heck, I don't like me when I'm angry. Which explains a lot when you think about it.....
You may have noticed that I took most of the day off yesterday. It was not my intention to take most of today off from posting, but that's what happened as I tried to get back to the office and caught up on the stuff that allows me to do this stuff.
Real quick posts of the Game notes/today's pitcher/pitching matchup variety right now. Maybe some more after the game or a big time catch up day tomorrow.
You may be wondering how Jose Jimenez got into the game yesterday since I reported that he was being transferred to Everett on Saturday.
Well, the roster move that was made to get Phillippe Aumont on the active roster was not Jimenez to Everett. Instead, Rob Harmon was placed on the disabled list.
The computer was a little slow this morning. Plus, remember that thing I said I was going to do yesterday? I got to do it this morning. I met Kevin Matthews. He used to be on AM 1000 in Chicago and I listened to him a lot when I was in college. Yep, I'm a Kevhead.
He is in Grand Rapids now and is on one of the stations in the group of radio stations that has the rights to the Whitecaps. Dave Skoczen, the radio voice of the Whitecaps, took me into the station today and I got to talk with Kevin for about 10 minutes.
His concert at the Riverside in Milwaukee back in 1990 is still one of the best I've ever seen.
Great to meet him and that's why I'm starting a bit late this morning...So, anything happen in the Midwest League last night?
