Walking around the stadium (Quad Cities)

Corn? In Iowa? Unheard of I say!

I mentioned this on the air the other night. When it is time to do the starting lineups right before the National Anthem the starters all walk down to the corn. Each player charges out of the field when his name is called.

What movie are they referencing here????

Yeah, That's the one.

Oh, and there is more...Here are some shots of the Tiki Village.

I would have gotten more, but I got this weird Scooby Doo vibe off the place. Why? From this episode of course.

A Tiki Scare is No Fair
Scooby brings up an ancient villiage, but their tour guide mentions that it is haunted. Drums starting pounding on their own and the sky turns black right as a ghostly tiki god appears and warns everyone to leave.
He would've gotten away with it if it hadn't been....you know the rest.

Walking around the stadium (Fort Wayne)

The famous waist high fence in right field.

Walking around the stadium (Dayton)

A few days late, but...

This is about the spot that Joe Dunigan slammed into the wall in the first game at Dayton.

Unpadded and sticking out from the wall by a bit.
This is the view from the batter's eye looking to left field. The bleacher seats stick out into the field of play.
This is a spot above the left field wall. People can rest their drinks, food, or elbows here to watch the game.
One of my favorite features of Fifth Third Field is that the upper deck seating overhangs the lower deck seating.
This is from the wheelchair accessible seating. The overhang gives some protection from the sun and the weather to those in this area and in the top seven or eight rows.

Walking around the stadium (Cedar Rapids again)

Gehrig knows that I have talked about these features of Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium often enough. How about photographic proof?

This is the 'short porch' in left.

Notice how far it juts out and how quickly it gets out to 378'

This is the view from 407' from home plate. The deepest part of the park in leftcenterSee how deep the dugouts are. What are those steps for?

To see, of course.

The sign makes me laugh...

Walking around the stadium (Clinton)

This is the original.
Does that look good? I don't think that looks good...

Often, I am asked to come back home with ideas on how the Timber Rattlers can make some money with additional events......Maybe one day, I'll think of something....Wait a minute...Something is coming to me....
...and they never asked Mehring again.

This is an appropriate Flag Day photo from the Lumber Lounge.

Does that look good?

Walking around the stadium (Burlington)

Here is a quick photo tour of Community Field. First the view from the door to the visiting radio booth. Those chairs are filled with all my friends during the game.

From the walkway behind the PA booth. Word is that is the tallest free standing flagpole in Iowa. Word also is that you can see the team hotel in the distance. Word is that I usually walk that almost every day.

This is the view from the wheelchair accessible seating. They are located on top of the home team dugout.

This is from the rooftop picnic area on the third baseline. The red building at the far right of the picture is the concession stand for the first base picnic area. The green building directly ahead is where the hitting cages are located.
These would be similar to the "railbird" seats at Packer practices.
If you come to a game here and decide to stand along the rail, someone may ask you to move. Whatever you do, do not say, "Why? Is your name on it?"
The Chicken Lip Sandwich is a rare and beautiful delicacy. Available at Community Field Thursday, Friday, and Saturday game days. I've had to wait two days and now I have to wait one more.

Rattler fans are aware of the Fang Mobile. I am including these pictures of the Buzz Mobile for a reason which will become apparent to some immediately.
A converted bread truck.
In another life, I believe that I would have (or may yet) become an excellent bread truck driver!

Walking around the stadium (Kane County)

Have I mentioned that they are pretty excited about the expansion plans in Kane County?

And the work has begun!

They like their Alumni, too.

For the record, Dontrelle Willis has one of those paintings on the concourse, too.
Just showing something different.
You are here ^
