Battle Creek may think Midland is out to get them

There was a post on here about the Great Lakes Loons and the city of Midland putting in a bid to get the Michigan State Baseball and Softball Tournaments.

Both tournaments are currently held in Battle Creek. The baseball tournament is at CO Brown Stadium and the softball tournament is held at diamonds around the stadium.

Remember that Battle Creek had a Midwest League team until the end of the 2006 season when they became the Looooooooons in Midland. The Battle Creek Enquirer has taken notice.

Will B.C. lose a state tourney?

For the first time since the Michigan high school baseball and softball state finals moved to Battle Creek in 1990, other cities have put in bids to host the two-day event.

John Johnson, director of communications for the Michigan High School Athletic Association, confirmed that both Midland and Mount Pleasant have submitted applications to host the finals after 2008 — when a 10-year contract with Battle Creek expires.

Johnson said the MHSAA board of directors will consider the proposals in either their March or May meetings.

"Things have been fine here, that's certainly not an issue," Johnson said Thursday while in town for the volleyball finals.

"We've just got to take a look at everything."

The pros and cons of the different sites are included. Then, there was this from Larry Wegener, the tournament manager in Battle Creek.

Wegener admitted that C.O. Brown Stadium could use some cleaning up.

"It just needs to be spruced up," Wegener said. "It needs a lot of paint, lots of elbow grease, sand blasting here and there and the drains cleaned. All of those things over time have become an issue."

Sounds like what needs to be done around the trailer.
