Here is the latest on the land swap for the Snapper stadium:

County rejects land swap proposal
The Mulder land swap proposal appears dead, but the future of the Rock County 4-H Fairgrounds remains in question.County board supervisors rejected the offer from Mulder Dairy Farms to trade 331 acres in La Prairie Township and $10.6 million for 465 acres of the county farm at highways 14 and 51 by a vote of 27-2 Thursday night. Supervisors Charles Elliott and Adam Peer voted against rejecting the offer.

29 county supervisors?

"This is the best opportunity we will have to keep the Snappers and to have a modern, safe, accessible fairgrounds," said Kim Simmons, Janesville.

But in the end, unresolved questions, including where the private financing would come from, proved to be too much for the supervisors to stomach.

"There are just too darn many unknowns in this," said Supervisor Eva Arnold.

Another barrier for supervisors was Mulder's request for 75 acres of the county farm south of Highway 14, said County Chairman Richard Ott.

The land is close to several county facilities, including the jail and Rock haven Nursing Home.

"That's part of the campus, and they stood strong on that," Ott said.

The rest of the article is mainly about the County Fairgrounds with very little mention of the baseball side of the issue.

At the bottom of the page are some quotes by residents and supervisors. Here are two from supervisors:

"When this process began with Jim Fitzgerald coming to me with his dream, he got me pretty excited, and as the process continued, I became more excited. As I sit here this evening, I just hate to say that we've failed."-Supervisor Charles Elliott

"A ballpark and fairgrounds would be wonderful things to have, we all agree with that, just as apple pie and motherhood (are wonderful). But we have no reason to get rid of the farm."-Supervisor Lynnette Kepplinger
