Lease, you've been reassigned...

The Double-A cousins of the Timber Rattlers have some news to report. It is a small part of a larger story, so the part about the Diamond Jaxx has been excerpted in full.

City Council OKs reassignment of Pringles Park lease to Diamond Jaxx
A consideration to reassign the city's Pringles Park lease from Lozinak Baseball Properties to Diamond Jaxx Baseball Club, which passed unanimously.

The reassignment of the lease, which has one year left, will keep any possible sale of the team from being delayed, said Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist.

The planned sale of the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx to a Middle Tennessee investment group still must be approved by The Southern League and Minor and Major League Baseball.

Gist said Tuesday after the meeting that he is optimistic that the new owners of the Seattle Mariners' Double-A affiliate will keep the team in Jackson.

"They have no interest in relocating the baseball team," Gist said. "They have no interest in losing money year after year either, but have made it clear they would be happy just to break even, so we are looking at working at a long-term lease for the ball club."
