With Big Papi as my co-pilot

Here are some snapshots from the just completed trip.

York, Nebraska, Hot Air Balloon Capital of the World...or maybe just Nebraska. The water tower wasn't clear.

Gothenberg, Nebraska and the original Pony Express station. Watch your head when you go inside.

North Platte, Nebraska. Oregon Trail Marker.

The Denver portion of the trip is Ortiz-free. He was busy sweeping the Rockies and I didn't feel like taking him into the Packer-Bronco game on Monday night. I did manage to add the Colorado Capitol building to my collection.

There was a marker outside Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium for the home plate of the original Mile High Stadium. But, I could not find home plate itself. Even after walking out 500 feet from the marker and making a complete circle. Color me disappointed. Other pictures of the visit to the game belong in a different post.

North of Denver after realizing that I was on I-25 North...The actual correct route heading north. Wow.

He was up in Wyoming
And drew a bull no man could ride.

He promised her he'd turn out

Well it turned out that he lied.

And all the dreams that they'd been livin'

In the California sand

Died right there beside him in Cheyenne.

They say she just went crazy

Screamin' out his name

She ran out into the ocean

And to this day they claim

That if you go down by the water

You'll see her footprints in the sand
'Cause every night she walks the beaches of Cheyenne.

Yes, the Wyoming Capitol building is now in the collection.

A scenic turnout about an hour outside of Cheyenne. It started snowing a bit north of here. Too depressing to take a picture of that.
We arrived at the entrance too late to get into the park. Don't tell anyone, but we did make an after hours turnaround.

This is the view from the entrance back toward the Interstate.
