Midwest League Action: May 8, 2009

Complete Scoreboard

@South Bend 6, Wisconsin 1: Alfredo Marte made the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers pay for their mistakes Friday night.

Kane County 7, @Dayton 3: On the same day he signed autographs at a local food chain over lunch for being the Dragons batter of the month for April, center fielder Dave Sappelt was pulled from the lineup for failure to hustle — in the first inning.

Clinton 5, @West Michigan 0: "We've been struggling hitting, but tonight it was their pitching," West Michigan manager Joe DePastino said. "Their two pitchers (starter Brett Lorin and Cheyne Hann) did a great job, and Lorin showed why he's top in the league in ERA.

Beloit 8, @Lansing 6: Lugnuts version

Burlington 6, @Great Lakes 3: “We’ve been swinging the bats well,” said Boughton. “You got to give credit to (Bees’ starter Bryan Casey), he kept the ball down. We hit the ball hard, but nothing happened.”

@Fort Wayne 8, Peoria 3: “My slider was working. I threw that pitch a lot (Friday) and my fastball, in and out,” Castro said. “… I’m more focused now. In the beginning, I lacked confidence, but now I have more focus.”

Cedar Rapids 8, @Quad Cities 1 -- suspended by rain in the second inning. The regular game will follow. Something is going on between games...
Military Appreciation Night ceremonies, including the dedication of the autographed Wounded Warriors rock that is being relocated to the Davenport ballpark, will be now be held during a 45-minute break between the completion of the suspended game and the regularly-scheduled contest.
