Paul Barbeau could hardly believe the response to the first day of individual ticket sales for the Great Lakes Loons.
The baseball team sold all of the approximately 1,000 lawn tickets for its April 13 home opener by 7:21 a.m. today, after sales opened at 7 a.m. on the team's website, www.loons.com.
"In the first hour, from 7 (o'clock) to 8, we had about 2,000 hits to our website and ticket system," said Barbeau, the Loons' president and general manager. "(By contrast), we've been averaging 8,000 to 10,000 hits per month."
Shocking that the newspaper would find someone with a negative experience.
Doug Pelletier of Midland had a frustrating experience. After going all the way through the ordering process and entering his credit card number, he was told by the website that his session had expired. By that time, it was 7:40 and all the opening day tickets were sold out.
"We were all fired up about going to opening day," said Pelletier, who has 5-year-old and 3-year-old sons.
Pelletier said he contacted Scott Litle, Loons' assistant general manager of ticket sales, and Litle told him he would check to make sure that Pelletier's credit card had not been charged.
But everything is okay.
"I'm fine with it now. They took care of it to my satisfaction," Pelletier said.
