Steve Goodman is probably best known for City of New Orleans and You Never Even Call Me by My Name. But, he was also a Cub fan. He penned and sung this song called A Dying Cub Fan's Last Request. This is a miminalist video, kind of like Springsteen's Brilliant Disguise, except without the camera slowly zooming in on the singer during the song:
But what do you expect,
When you raise up a young boy's hopes
And then just crush 'em like so many paper beer cups.
Year after year after year
after year, after year, after year, after year, after year
'Til those hopes are just so much popcorn
for the pigeons beneath the 'L' tracks to eat.
