Iowa Hot Stoves

The Clinton LumberKings and the Burlington Bees each have Hot Stove Banquets coming up.

The Bees will have theirs on January 13. I'm calling it a Hot Stove Banquet. Their name is a bit more descriptive:
The fourth annual Friends of Community Field/Burlington Bees Winter Banquet is coming up on Saturday, January 13th in the banquet room at FunCity. This year's event features Kansas City Royals General Manager Dayton Moore as the keynote speaker and an exciting line of autographed memorabilia and collectible items available in the auctions and raffle.

The LumberKings have theirs on January 20.

The Clinton LumberKings will be holding the annual Hot Stove Banquet on Saturday, January 20th at Eagle Point Park Lodge. This year's keynote speaker will be Jim Sundberg, former Iowa Hawkeye and 16-year Major League Baseball veteran. He currently serves as the Executive Director to the President of the Texas Rangers.

Sundberg retired at the end of the 1989 season following a 16-year major league career with the Rangers, Milwaukee, Kansas City and Chicago Cubs. One of the top defensive catchers in major league history, he won six Gold Glove awards and was a three-time American League All-Star. Sundberg spent 11 1/2 seasons with the Rangers and still ranks among the club's all-time leaders in games (1st, 1,512), at-bats (4th, 4,684), hits (5th, 1,180) and triples (2nd, 27). He won a World Series ring as a member of the 1985 Kansas City Royals, scoring the winning run with a head-first slide in the Royals' memorable Game 6 win over St. Louis.

Sundberg was a member of the only Hawkeye baseball team that made it to Omaha for the College World Series.
