Johnny Carson and Donald Sutherland pictures from Springfield Weekly.
Homer at the Bat was a third season episode (aired on February 20, 1992) of the show. Mr. Burns bets $1 million that his power plant team will win the championship.
The fair-minded Mr. Burns goes out and brings in the following ringers: Darryl Strawberry, Ken Griffey, Jr., Steve Sax, Roger Clemens, Jose Canseco, Don Mattingly, Ozzie Smith, Wade Boggs and Mike Scioscia
The Springfield Nuclear Power Plant rolls through the competition, but as the Championship game approaches, the ringers begin going down one by one. My personal favorites were Mr. Burns suspending Mattingly for having his sideburns too long and Smith getting lost in the Springfield Mystery Spot.
By the time the bottom of the ninth inning in the Championship Game rolls around, Strawberry is the only ringer left standing. The game is tied, the bases are loaded, and the Straw is due up. But, Mr. Burns sends in Homer as pinch hitter because the pitcher is a lefty and it just makes sense to send in a righty to hit for a guy who has nine home runs on the day.
Anyway, someone posted this on Youtube to make this recap both make more sense and more entertaining.
Also, here is a the song that played over the end credits of that episode, Talkin' Softball.
