Appleton United girls win state hockey title
Appleton United, which was new to this whole WIAA thing, proved everybody wrong and claimed the state title with a 4-2 win against Chippewa Falls/ McDonell Central.
"It feels awesome," said freshman goalie Molly Mandoli, whose smile remained on her face even as she lugged away her heavy equipment bag. "I'm so happy."
When the clock finally expired, the players made their fourth straight bull rush, giving their rookie netminder a huge bear hug. Even after they rolled out the red carpet for the WIAA brass, Mandoli was still so charged up that she started skating to center ice to collect a medal that was for a Chippewa Falls/McDonell player.
