Midwest League Action: Games of September 4, 2009

Complete scoreboard

Cedar Rapids 5 @Wisconsin 2: Will Smith allowed just two hits over eight strong innings in pitching Cedar Rapids to a 5-2 Midwest League win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Friday at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute.

South Bend 6 @Dayton 2 (10 innings):
“We played 27 pretty darn good innings (over three days) against these guys,” Dragons manager Todd Benzinger said. “We needed 28.”

To host a Wednesday playoff game now, the Dragons must either sweep three games at Great Lakes to end the regular season while South Bend loses one of its final two games to Lansing, or win two while South Bend loses two.
@Fort Wayne 1, Great Lakes 0:
Vince Belnome swears he got in.

At least three Great Lakes Loons thought otherwise.

Belnome was ruled safe on a play at the plate in the eighth inning. His run stood as the only one as the TinCaps defeated Great Lakes 1-0.
@Lansing 4, West Michigan 3: Lugnuts version | Whitecaps version

Kane County 6 @Peoria 3: It was far from the way the Peoria Chiefs wanted to close the home portion of the regular-season schedule.

@Quad Cities 11, Beloit 5: The River Bandits' four-run first inning gave starter Scott Schneider more runs to work with than the team had scored in the right-hander's first four games combined.

Clinton 5 @Burlington 4: "Every game is the same," said Bees manager Jim Gabella. "That's something we've told these guys from day one. It doesn't matter what game it is when you step on the field, you play it the same way. You play the game the way it's supposed to be played. You play as hard as you can. You play to win."
