One mistake.TUESDAY:
Jeff Suppan was as dominant as he has been all season, but that one mistake was all that was needed to turn the game away from him.
It wasn't as if his sin was that backbreaking, but when the other team totes an ace with a reputation for shutting down Suppan's Milwaukee Brewers, that can be all that's needed.
Chicago Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee, whom manager Lou Piniella called the team's MVP before the game, hit an opposite-field home run in the fourth inning, and right-hander Ryan Dempster made it stand up in a 2-0 victory Monday night at Wrigley Field.
Dempster was helped by some stellar defense in collecting his 11th career victory against the Brewers and his third this season. For his career, Dempster is 11-3 with a 2.67 earned-run average in 39 games and 17 starts against Milwaukee.
"That was a terrific-pitched game by both guys," Brewers manager Ken Macha said. "Suppan had a little bad luck when we were swinging the bat, but they made the plays."
