Sixers could try wooing Dodgers
SAN BERNARDINO - Could this year's 66ers team be the last Seattle Mariners affiliate in San Bernardino?
It's entirely possible, as major league teams and minor league affiliates begin the biennial affiliation dance this month.
The 66ers have been affiliated with the Mariners for the past six seasons, but co-owner Dave Elmore said the team is looking at the possibility of signing a player development contract with a certain major league team familiar to Southern California fans.
"We've heard there's a possibility the Dodgers would want to leave (Vero Beach),'' Elmore said. "The Dodgers would be a great fit for us. We'd like to be part of the Dodger organization.''
I found this interesting because teams usually don't talk about this stuff with the media. It is also interesting because the Elmore Group also owns San Antonio, the Texas League affiliate of the Mariners.
Dates to keep in mind:
Teams have until Sept. 11 to give notice they will be looking elsewhere. Between Sept. 12-15, a list of major league teams and minor league affiliates looking for a new contract will be circulated.
Negotiations cannot begin before Sept. 16, and lasts until Sept. 30. If teams have not matched by the end of the negotiation period, Major League Baseball and Minor League Baseball will match them.
Keep an eye on this
