Tacoma improvements

From a ballparkdigest.com tip comes this story about some potential improvements to the home of the Tacoma Rainiers.

Cheney Stadium to get face-lift
City Council approves $1.6 million for first of planned improvements

Tacoma doesn’t have the money to build a new baseball venue, but it does plan to make Cheney Stadium less of a diamond in the rough.

Improvements the crowd will see in time for the first pitch of the new season on April 13 include:

• A sort of “crown” facade atop the outside of the ballpark.
• Graphics of ballplayers in action similar to those fans see of Ichiro and other Mariners outside Safeco Field.
• A wrought-iron fence replacing the chain-link fence around the ballpark.
• Up to three dozen more spaces for fans in wheelchairs to complement the dozen or so already in the stadium.

Tuesday night, the City Council approved a $1.6 million contract with Wade Perrow Construction of Gig Harbor for the work.

I hope they get more specific than "A sort of 'crown' facade" before they start working on the thing.
