March Alumni Report

Over at the Rattler home page the new Rattler Alumni Report is available. In fact, it has been up there for a few days. Since the title is Rattler Alumni Report 3/1.

A few of these were mentioned here. Joe Mays to the Dodgers, Gary Harris signs with the Phillies, and Kendall Bergdall to the Tigers.

But here is one that I missed:

Colorado Rockies signed RHP Jeffrey Gilmore ('06) to a minor league contract

Gilmore had a rocky stint with Wisconsin in 2006, compiling a 6.67 ERA over 27 innings. After his release from the Mariners, he played for Pulaski of the Appalachian League, a Blue Jays affiliate. He posted better numbers there, going 2-1 with a 3.63 ERA. It was enough to convince the Rockies to give him a shot in '07.

Then, there are the independent league signings:

Northern League
Joliet Jackhammers agreed to terms with INF Chad Ehrnsberger ('03)

Ehrnsberger returns to the Jackhammers after spending the 2006 season with them. He hit .294 with 12 home runs for Joliet last season. Seattle discovered Chad playing for the Kansas City T-Bones of the Northern League in 2003. He appeared in 25 games for the Rattlers before the Mariners sent him to the Cardinals organization. He played the following season with Palm Beach and Tennessee before being released by St. Louis and heading back to independent ball.

American Association
Sioux City Explorers agreed to terms with INF Jake Daubert ('01)

Daubert was released by the Mariners organization following his 2001 season with the Rattlers in which he hit .256. He hooked on with the Brockton Rox of the Northeast League (later the Can-Am) where he spent three and a half seasons. He joined the Explorers during the 2006 season, hitting .294 with 3 HRs and 24 RBIs down the stretch. He is slated to be the X's starting third baseman this season.

Sioux City was always a favorite stop when I was in the Northern League and the USHL.
