The Peoria Chiefs are returning to the FM dial for the first time in 10 years.
WZPN-FM 96.5 — ESPN Radio's Peoria outlet — will carry all 140 games of the 2009 season, the Chicago Cubs' Class A affiliate announced Friday.
The one-year agreement with Independence Media, the ownership group of four Peoria stations including ESPN Radio, puts the Chiefs on FM for the first time since 1999.
'This is a great day for the Chiefs and Chiefs fans throughout central Illinois,' Chiefs president Rocky Vonachen said. 'The deal with ESPN Radio and its signal strength allows us to broadcast baseball to a larger area of fans. We are thrilled to partner with ESPN and the name recognition that comes with being on a nationally known sports station.'
With the Chicago Cubs on WIRL-AM (1290) and the St. Louis Cardinals on WMBD-AM (1470) there was no room for the Chiefs to return to the AM dial.
A place to follow the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, the Midwest League, Minor League baseball, Major League Baseball, and everything in between in that order.
