Anytime the Post-Crescent publishes a picture of Goodland Field, I'll do a post.

Here is the caption:
1961 The first big crowd sheltered under the new grandstand roof at Goodland Field. A total of 2,018 fans turned out Thursday on "Friendly Tavern Night" to watch Fox Cities beat Burlington 7-0. Post-Crescent Historical file photo The in play light pole always gets me.
This was part of a column by Maureen Wallenfang
that dealt with a little bit of Appleton history. Plenty more historical photos at a link within that link.

Is there really such a thing as an "unfriendly tavern?"
There are three types of places:
Taverns
Bars
Clubs (or as the kids say, Grinds)
If you have to asked the difference, you probably don't belong in a tavern :)
