Mavs take control
At hitter-friendly Stater Bros. Stadium, it was pitching that put the Mavericks on the brink of reaching the California League championship series.Ex-Rattlers for Mavericks:
Starter Mauricio Robles helped High Desert shut out Rancho Cucamonga for the second straight night as the Mavs defeated the Quakes 4-0 on Sunday, following Steven Hensley’s complete-game shutout in Game 1. The Mavs lead the best-of-five series 2-0.
The last time the Mavericks pitched back-to-back shutouts at Stater Bros. Stadium was in 1997.
“(Hensley and Robles) threw two great games here,” High Desert manager Jim Horner said. “Hensley’s was pretty darn impressive and tonight wasn’t far behind it. With that wind blowing, it’s pretty impressive to keep throwing those zeroes up there. They both attacked the zone.”
