Clement more comfortable
Catcher focusing on staying healthy and being consistent
This time, Jeff Clement didn't feel like a complete stranger when he walked into the Mariners' clubhouse in Peoria.
Clement, the 23-year-old catcher and former first-round draft pick in 2005, was among the pitchers and catchers who reported for their physicals at the Peoria Sports Complex on Wednesday.
"Last year, I hardly knew anyone because I had only been with the organization for the latter part of the year," he said. "Now, other than the newly signed ones, I know a lot of guys. There's a lot more familiar faces ... that makes you comfortable."
There is reference to a good start before injuries hit in 2005, but I think it is supposed to be 2006. But, what do I know?
Also in the story is the note about Felix Hernandez coming into camp in the best shape of his life and speculation begins about who the M's Opening Day starter will be. Hernandez and former UW-Oshkosh Titan Jarrod Washburn are the early favorites.
