You may not know this, but Game Six is part of Red Sox lore. If you don't (or if you do) head over to this story at the Red Sox website.
Great sports moments become embedded in your memory over time. There is plenty on Game Six of the 1975 World Series, the 1986 World Series, and the 2004 ALCS.That's what Dick Stockton was saying on an off-day in Arizona at the start of this postseason, preparing at the time for a return to October broadcasting with TBS. With a gleam in his eye, he took himself like everyone else does to another place in time even as he was speaking, and you could practically hear the crowd.
"Calling Carlton Fisk's home run on NBC," Stockton said, when asked for his favorite postseason memory. "It was just a great moment."
Nothing on these other six classic Game Sixes from the last few years that did not involve a team from Boston or New York: 2004 NLCS (Cardinals vs. Astros), 2003 NLCS (Cubs vs. Marlins), 2002 World Series (Giants vs. Angels), 1993 World Series (Phillies vs. Blue Jays), 1991 World Series (Braves vs. Twins), and 1987 World Series (Cardinals vs. Royals). But, that is probably because it is the Red Sox website.
