Last week, I mentioned the fact that the SWING will stay the SWING for a while longer. This story from Thursday has a few more details.

Still the Swing, at least for now

The Midwest League club planned to announce the winner of its Your Team, Your Name contest in early October, but the selection of the club’s new nickname won’t be announced until the sale of the franchise is complete.

“The contest is something that the new ownership put together, and because it is their contest, the winner won’t be announced until they take over operations of the team,’’ Quad-Cities General Manager Ben Burke said.

“It will likely happen pretty quickly once that occurs. We all anticipated the sale would have been finalized by now, but because it hasn’t, we are essentially in a holding pattern.’’

How long will that holding pattern last?

The Quad-Cities application is one of three under review by the commissioner’s office, which has no deadline to act and does not comment on pending transactions.
