What is happening in.....

Quad Cities....

Here is the most recent news on the SWING of the Quad Cities or whatever they are about to be called:

Prospective Swing owners still waiting
An anxious wait continues for the prospective owners of the Swing of the Quad-Cities.

“We are laying the groundwork for a lot of things, but until the ownership change is approved we remain pretty much in a holding pattern,’’ David Heller of Mainstreet Iowa said Wednesday.

Heller and his business partner, Bob Herrfeldt, continue a wait that began nearly two months ago for the major league commissioner’s office to sign off on Mainstreet Iowa’s purchase of the club from Seventh Inning Stretch, the Kevin Krause-led organization which has operated the Midwest League franchise since 1998.

This story is from September 20. Nothing since, especially on the name change.

In the interim, Heller said preparations continue for the 2008 season in the Quad-Cities, where final-round voting in the name-the-team contest continues through Sept. 30 at both qctimes.com and swingbaseball.com. The initial response to an opportunity to pick a nickname from among six finalists has Heller enthused about the prospects.

“We had more than 500 votes the first day, and it’s something people are talking about which is what we were hoping would happen,’’ Heller said.

So, the votes are in? What were the choices again? Follow this link to get to the SWING message board thread about the names and what some fans are saying.

As a refresher the names up for the vote are: Channel Cats, Current, River Eagles, River Bandits, SWING, and Talons.

I'm guessing the name change won't be happening until the ownership change is official.
