Grooming the grounds
The offseason will give crews a chance to catch up on maintenance that they couldnt do during the season, such as digging up and fixing any spots in the turf that need attention. The grass still needs to be mowed and watered but the workdays now are a lot shorter. Then before the snow, crews will cover the grass for the winter, and both it and the crew will lie in wait until spring and the baseball season.
The long days and hard work didnt go unnoticed. McQuaid and crew earned a nod as the best crew in the Midwest League, as chosen by managers around the league. The Loons Grounds Crew demonstrated a commitment and dedication to providing a first-rate playing surface, making them a respected leader in the Sports Turf industry, said Midwest League President George H. Spelius in a statement.
