Now this is thinking ahead

There is a timeline for the Harrison Square project in Fort Wayne that either gives me confidence or frightens me with its certainty. Two main points.

Mid-April 2009 First baseball game

Although the baseball season opens April 9 for the Midwest League, Mike Nutter, Wizards general manager, said he hopes to delay the team’s home opener at least a week. He said other teams with new stadiums have said it’s always nice to have as much time as possible. Nutter said discussions on the exact date for opening day 2009 will begin this month at the league’s winter meetings.

February 2034 City pays off debt

John Wernet, attorney for the redevelopment commission, said the city will make its final payment on the $45.9 million bond in 27 years. The first payment isn’t made until August 2009 because state law doesn’t allow capital bonds to be paid off until the project is constructed.

The final bond payment: $2.4 million.

2034? Now that is a long-range plan.
