The view from the Sun

The Jackson Sun has an editorial about the pending sale of the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx.
We are encouraged by the response of the new ownership group for the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx in allaying fears about the team's future in Jackson. If the new owners will stick by their stated commitment to keep the team here, they will go a long way toward reassuring a nervous public and reversing some of the precipitous attendance declines in recent years.

There's a lot to be excited about when it comes to the pending sale of the Diamond Jaxx. The team already has proven that it can draw fans and be profitable. During its first years in Jackson, the team regularly ranked near the top of the Southern League in attendance. After several years of declining attendance, the team saw a substantial increase last year. It has earned the chance to be given more time to renew public interest and to build attendance.

Many of the problems in community support the team has dealt with in recent years were due to attempts to sell and move the team and uncertainty about the Jaxx' future. That's why [Reese] Smith's and his group's commitment to Jackson is so important.

The Jaxx are the Double A affiliate of the Mariners.
