Tillman in the Post

Ex-Rattler and ex-Mariner farmhand Chris Tillman is the topic of this story in the Washington Post.

A 'Scout's Delight' Has the Orioles Smiling

Tillman, at 19 the type of young pitcher around whom the Orioles hope to rebuild, admitted he wasn't quite sure what to expect when he accepted the Orioles' invitation to attend major league spring training.

But three weeks later, Tillman seems to have settled in, a fact not lost on management, which may send Tillman to Class AA Bowie to begin his second professional season.

"I think he can handle it from what I see," said Orioles Manager Dave Trembley, who has been impressed by how Tillman has performed in his first major league camp. "He does repeat his delivery, he does show command, poise, great size, has a secondary pitch and is competitive. And I don't think he will be intimidated if gets hit around a little bit."

Tillman took the loss in Thursday's 8-7 defeat against the Minnesota Twins, allowing two runs (one unearned) in one inning, though he showed some of his competitiveness by striking out the final hitter he faced to close out his second outing. Earlier in the exhibition season, Tillman flashed some of the potential that put him the Bedard deal, working a scoreless inning and needing only six pitches against the Washington Nationals on Sunday.

Head over for the whole thing.
