ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Timber Rattlers lost 4-2 to the Kernels. Gabe Jacobo homered and drove in two runs and Tyler Chatwood allowed one run over five innings for the win.

NO KNOCK ON THIS WOOD: Chatwood made four starts against the Timber Rattlers this season. He went 4-0 with an ERA of 0.39. In 23-1/3 innings against the Rattlers in 2009, Chatwood allowed one run on 11 hits and 17 walks, while striking out 23.

IN PERSPECTIVE: Chatwood went 4-7 with a 4.93 against the rest of the Midwest League.

ONE EIGHTH: Jacobo’s homer in the top of the second put the Kernels up 1-0. It was the eighth homer of the season Cedar Rapids has hit against the Timber Rattlers this year. That is 1/8 of the season total of 64 round trippers for the Kernels this season.

GAME OF CHANCE(S): The Rattlers stranded 13 runners in the game last night. They had at least one runner on base in every inning except the fourth. Wisconsin had nine hits, drew seven walks, had a batter hit by a pitch, and had a runner reach on a fielder’s choice for 18 base runners.

BROCK! Rattlers outfielder Brock Kjeldgaard went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two singles, an RBI, and a walk. He joins Brett Lawrie, Chris Dennis, Juan Sanchez, and Taylor Green as Timber Rattlers players with four hits in a game this season.

HELPING HANDS: Wisconsin had a pair of outfield assists last night. Erik Miller threw out a runner at third base for his ninth assist of the season. Derrick McPhearson threw out a runner at the plate for his fourth assist of the year.

THAT MANY? REALLY? Nick Tyson pitched two innings in relief against the Kernels last night and allowed on unearned run. Last night was the eighth time he faced Cedar Rapids this season. Tyson went 1-0 with a save and a 1.64 ERA in those outings. Wisconsin and Cedar Rapids have played each other 18 times this season.

NEW LEADER: Wily Peralta, Wisconsin’s starting pitcher last night, struck out five in five innings to give him 118 K’s this season. He passed recently promoted Cody Scarpetta for the team lead in that category. Scarpetta finished the season with 116 strikeouts in 105 innings. Peralta racked up his total in 103.2IP

SOMETHING ABOUT ATTENDANCE: The Timber Rattlers are at 247,788 in 67 home games this season to set a new single season attendance record. If the Rattlers draw 2,212 fans tonight, they will hit 250,000 for the season.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS: The Cedar Rapids Kernels are the Midwest League affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Cedar Rapids is in the Midwest League playoffs as the first half Wild Card in the Western Division. The Kernels were 40-30 in the second half. They are 35-29 in the second half to give them an overall record of 75-59.

SEASON SERIES: The Timber Rattlers are 7-11 against Cedar Rapids in 2009. Wisconsin is 3-7 against the Kernels at Time Warner Cable Field.

He spent last season with the Orem Owlz in the Pioneer League and was 8-2 with a 3.06ERA over 16 games (14 starts). He struck out 76 and walked six in 73 innings for the Owlz. Smith is 9-5 with a 3.95 ERA in 19 games (18 starts) with the Kernels this season. In his last start, Smith was the loser against Peoria on August 30. He allowed 10 runs (seven earned) on 12 hits over three innings. Smith has faced the Timber Rattlers four times – including his only relief appearance of the season – this season. He is 0-2 with a 5.66 ERA. In 20-2/3 innings against Wisconsin, Smith has given up 14 runs (13 earned) on 22 hits with five walks and 20 strikeouts.
