Can't...look...away

More from the Janesville Gazette on the possibility of the land swap for the new Snapper Stadium:

Supervisors: Residents don't want land swap

Rock County residents seem opposed to the land swap proposed by Mulder Dairy Farms, if calls taken by several county board supervisors are any indication.

Supervisor Sandra Kraft, who represents parts of Edgerton and Fulton Township, told WCLO Radio that she has taken 15 to 20 calls in the past week concerning the land swap."It was unanimous," she said. "They all either asked that I vote 'no,' or gave their opinion that they were not in favor of it."

Opposition seems to have increased since Monday, when appraisals were released showing a $10.6 million difference between the value of the Mulder and county properties.

Well, yeah. That'll happen.

Here is the editorial from the Gazette:
Land swap doesn't add up for county

Many people would like a bigger, better fairgrounds to replace the landlocked fairgrounds in Janesville. And the Beloit Snappers need a new stadium to stay economically viable. Having the stadium seating double as a fairgrounds grandstand would make sense. So would putting such a development along the Interstate in a central location between Janesville and Beloit, the county's two largest cities.
...
Still, many people expressed suspicions of the swap and feared the county would fall for a bad deal. Monday's appraisals lend credence to those concerns.

The swap's Dec. 29 deadline, set by Mulder, complicates matters. Changes since the proposal emerged several months ago haven't helped the offer's credibility. And Hendricks' hankering for a racetrack and Fitzgerald's support of gravel mining on other Mulder properties to dig up money for a fairgrounds have raised more concerns.

The vote is Thursday.
