This was a final attempt to get that through:
Mulder offers additional $2 million
In a last-minute effort to sway county supervisors, Mulder Dairy Farms will offer an additional $2.3 million in the proposed land swap with the county, company President Bill Watson announced today.
The additional money will bring the cash offered in the deal to $10.6 million, the difference between the Mulder and county land values in an appraisal released Monday.
Mulder does not believe the appraisals were an accurate representation of the land but is willing to chip in the money in an effort to get a new baseball stadium and fairgrounds built in La Prairie Township, Watson said.
"As we look at it, we're adding $2 million to the gift, but the net effect is the money that goes to the county is exactly the same as the appraisal numbers they have," he said.
The Beloit and Janesville newspapers update in the late morning. Will try to check back and update this story.
