Baseball History -- March 15

Complete entry for March 15 is at BaseballLibrary.com HERE.

Highlighted entries:
1944
In Maryland, the Senators start training with five knuckleballers likely to make the staff:
Dutch Leonard, Roger Wolff, Mickey Haefner, John Niggeling, and Bill Lefebvre. Pity C Rick Ferrell, who will have to corral the flutterballs.

There is a web page devoted to knuckleball quotes HERE. Plenty of good quotes there, including Bob Uecker on the best way to catch a knuckleball: Wait'll it stops rolling, then go pick it up.
1917
The Red Sox lose to Brooklyn, 7–2 in the "Hot Springs World Series." Both teams are training in Arkansas and will barnstorm north together.

Spring training in Arkansas. Wouldn't that be something?
