ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Rattlers were shutout 3-0 by the Swing. Eddie Degerman, Shaun Garceau, and Kenny Maiques combined on the five-hitter. The Rattlers have lost ten straight at home and are 0-6 against Quad Cities on Time Warner Cable Field.
ALL THE OFFENSE THEY NEEDED: The Swing scored an unearned run in the top of the first inning. Jose Ramirez walked to start the game, went to second on a passed ball, went to third on a groundout, and scored on an error.
FOUR SCORE AND MORE: The Rattler defense was charged with four more errors last night. Wisconsin has committed a Midwest League high total of 126.
TURNING TWO THREE TIMES: The Rattler defense turned three double plays last night. Swing designated hitter Christian Reyes grounded into a pair of the twin killings.
PASSING IT ON: There were two passed balls charged to Rattler catcher Juan Beltran last night. Rattler catchers have been charged with a total of 22, which is second in the league.
END OF THE LINE: Wisconsin designated hitter Carlos Peguero had a pair of streaks end last night. His eight-game hitting streak ended as he went 0-for-3 with a walk. His six-game streak of knocking in at least one run also was stopped.
A LITTLE HELP HERE: Of the five times Wisconsin has been shutout this season – including last night, Nathan Adcock was the starting and losing pitcher for the Rattlers three times. In Adcock’s 7 losses this season, the Wisconsin offense has scored nine runs.
ADVENTURES IN BASERUNNING: The Rattlers had four runners thrown out on the base paths last night. Juan Diaz was thrown out trying to steal second base twice. Kuo Hui Lo was picked off second base. Alex Liddi was thrown out at the plate trying to score from third on a wild pitch. Each Rattler out on the bases ended an inning.
ROSTER MOVES: Outfielder James McOwen joins the Timber Rattlers today. He was the 6th round pick of Seattle in the 2007 draft out of Florida International. Also, pitcher Rollie Gibson rejoins the Rattlers today. To make room for the new players, infielder Alex Meneses has been send to the AZL Mariners and pitcher Drew Fiorenza has been placed on the disabled list.
OPPOSING STARTER: Blake King was a 44th round pick of the Cardinals in the 2005 draft out of Eastern Oklahoma State College. He signed as a draft-and-follow before the 2006 draft. King went 4-3 with a 3.02ERA for Johnson City in his first pro season and finished second in the Appalachian League in strikeouts with 74. He has made a pair of starts against the Rattlers in 2007. He is 0-1 and has allowed five runs on four hits and eight walks with eight strikeouts in just 5-1/3 innings against Wisconsin.
SECOND SWING PITCHER: Brandon Dickson was signed by the Cardinals as a non-drafted free agent out of Tusculum College in Tennessee. Before signing with St. Louis, Dickson played for the New Market Rebels of the Valley Baseball League and went 5-0 with 13 saves in 26 appearances. Dickson has made two relief appearances against the Rattlers this season. He has no decisions, but has allowed one run on five hits over eight innings with a pair of walks and four strikeouts.
