South Bend Tribune:
One swing of the bat decided Tuesday’s 4-3 victory over Dayton — a three-run homer by Collin Cowgill with two out in the fourth inning.Dayton Daily News:
"I’m so happy for Cowgill," said South Bend manager Mark Haley. “He had 11 home runs in 14 games at Yakima, then didn’t have any in 19 games after joining us. Now he has two in the playoffs."
Cowgill was Arizona’s 2008 fifth-round draft choice from the University of Kentucky.
Mark Haley, South Bend's manager, took a chance Tuesday, Sept. 9, and it worked. He didn't start Jarrod Parker, his best pitcher. After all, Dayton had to win. South Bend didn't, and Dayton had its best pitcher, Jeremy Horst, on the mound.
"He's good," Haley said of Horst. "After they got that lead, with him going, I thought we were in trouble."
