New team

The Connecticut Defenders moved to Richmond, Virginia at the end of the 2009 season. They weren't going to keep the Defenders name, which is a shame because I think that they could have worked out something with Williams.

Instead, the new Richmond entry in the Eastern League will need to work something out with the estate of Jay Ward.

Gliding rodents have prevailed.

At a press conference Thursday afternoon, Richmond Pro Baseball announced that the name of the city's new Eastern League team will be the Flying Squirrels. The moniker was one of six finalists chosen in a name-the-team contest which drew over 15,000 submissions.
