Time for Mehring Monday

Please go over at the main site for Mehring Monday. I started writing one thing, but it turned into something else and -- if I may say so -- something cool. Plus, there are links to even cooler information.

Check out The Ballad of Fat Pat and the story behind this baseball card.

Card from here. Information for the article from here.

You know, I still get asked from time to time if I'm related to Pat Seerey. As best we can tell, there is no relation, but it's still an interesting story.

Thanks for the good read on my long lost cousin (maybe, sort of, but probably not).

I'm not a genealogist, nor do I play one on the radio, BUT...

Seeing as how Fat Pat spells his name with an extra "e" in there, I am guessing that there is no relation.

Unless the clerks at Ellis Island made a mistake in spelling.

True, but come on, how many people named Seerey or Serey do you know? It's not that far of a reach to think that we could be related somehow.

There are plenty of cases of names being changed or Americanized over the years. Just ask your boy Mike Vander Woude/Mike Vander Wood.
