June 12, 2010: Tonight's Starting Pitchers

GAME ONE STARTER

RHP ERIC ARNETT: Selected by Milwaukee in the 1st round of the 2009 draft out of Indiana University.

LAST SEASON: Arnett was sent to Helena shortly after signing with the Milwaukee Brewers. In his first pro season, Arnett appeared in 14 games (nine starts) for the Pioneer League affiliate of the Brewers. Arnett went 0-4 with a 4.41 ERA. He walked 21 and struck out 35 over 34-2/3 innings for Helena.

LAST START: Arnett took the loss at Lake County on June 5. He pitched three innings and allowed four runs on four hits. The game was halted in the middle of the fourth inning and picked up on June 6. All four runs scored against Arnett came in the first inning.

RANKED: Baseball America rated Arnett as the #4 prospect in the Brewers system in their 2010 Prospect Handbook. They also named him the #10 prospect in the Pioneer League after the 2009 season.

BACK HOME AGAIN IN INDIANA: Arnett went 12-2 with a 2.50 ERA in his final season with the Hoosiers. Arnett was a First-Team All Big Ten selection and a co-pitcher of the year in the Big Ten.

ALL-EVERYTHING: Arnett attended Watkins Memorial High School in Pataskala, Ohio. He was an All-Ohio Capital Conference and All-County selection in his final three seasons with the Warriors. In his senior season, Arnett was named Ohio Capital Conference Player of the Year.

TRIPLE THREAT: Arnett also played football and basketball at Watkins Memorial High. He was an All-Conference selection in those sports as well.

VS. DAYTON: Arnett has never faced the Dayton Dragons.

VS. CINCINNATI: Arnett pitched five times against the Billings Mustangs, the Pioneer League affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds, in 2009. Arnett was 0-1 with a 2.13 ERA in those five games (three starts) against the Mustangs. Arnett allowed 13 runs (three earned) on 13 hits over 12-2/3 innings with five walks and 18 strikeouts.

STARTING PITCHER (GAME TWO)

RHP KYLE HECKATHORN: Selected by the Brewers as a supplemental 1st round pick (47th overall) in the 2009 draft out of Kennesaw State University.

LAST SEASON: Heckathorn made six appearances (five starts) for Helena in the Pioneer League. He was 0-1 with a 6.04ERA with the Brewers. Heckathorn walked four and struck out 15 in 22-1/3 innings.

LAST START: Heckathorn allowed one run on five hits over seven innings at Fort Wayne on June 1. He did not walk a batter and struck out six over seven innings and picked up the victory.

WISE OWL: In his final season at Kennesaw State, Heckathorn went 4-1 with a 3.44ERA in 13 starts. He struck out 98 and walked 27 in 86-1/3 innings.

ALL-TIME: In three seasons with the Owls, Heckathorn struck out 239 batters. That ranks him fourth on the career strikeout list at Kennesaw State.

NICE WAY TO GO OUT: Heckathorn’s last start for Kennesaw State was against North Florida on May 14, 2009. He pitched nine innings and allowed four runs as he scattered 11 hits. What made the start particularly memorable was that he set a school record for strikeouts in a game as he K’ed 15 North Florida batters. Heckathorn, who walked just one in the game, was not involved in the decision, a 6-5 win for the Owls in 11 innings.

HONORED: Louisville Slugger recognized Heckathorn as one of their National Players of the Week for his performance on May 14 against North Florida.

POST-SEASON REWARD: The Atlantic Sun Conference named Heckathorn to their All-Conference team after the 2009 season.

RANKING: Baseball America lists Heckathorn as the #10 prospect in the Milwaukee Brewers organization.

VS. DAYTON: Heckathorn has never faced the Dragons. He faced the Billings Mustangs, the Pioneer League affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds one time in 2009. In four shutout innings, he allowed two hits and struck out three without walking a batter.
