June 13, 2010: Game Notes

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Dayton Dragons swept a doubleheader from the Timber Rattlers. Dayton won game one 10-0. The Dragons took game two 3-2.

GAME ONE RECAP: Dayton hit three homers in the game, all off Timber Rattlers starting pitcher Eric Arnett. Cameron Satterwhite started the game by hitting a home run on the third pitch of the game. Frank Pfister and Didi Gregorious also hit homers for the Dragons. Starting pitcher Jacob Johnson allowed two hits over five innings for the win.

GAME TWO RECAP: Chris Richburg hit a two-out, three-run home run in the top of the third inning off Rattlers starting pitcher Kyle Heckathorn to give the Dragons a 3-0 lead. Chris Dennis drove in a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Rattlers were retired in the seventh without scoring the tying run. Tim Crabbe picked up the win with five innings of two-hit, shutout ball.

DOUBLEHEADER STATS: Wisconsin is 4-8 in their six twin bills this season. Wisconsin has swept one, been swept in three, and split the other two. The Timber Rattlers have lost game one in five of their six doubleheaders this season.

SIX: Wisconsin had six hits in the doubleheader. All six of the hits were two-out singles.

ONE STREAK ENDS: Heckathorn walked Pfister with one out in the top of the fourth inning in game two. That ended a streak of 24-2/3 innings without issuing a walk for Heckathorn.

ONE STREAK CONTINUES: Heckathorn tossed allowed three runs over six innings and – despite the loss – is credited with a quality start. Heckathorn has pitched six consecutive quality starts.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS: The Dayton Dragons are the Midwest League affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. In 2009, the Dragons finished the season 59-80. They were 28-42 in the first half and 31-38 in the second half. The Dragons did not make the playoffs last season. In 2010, Dayton is 26-36 and in sixth place in the Midwest League’s Eastern Division. They are 4-6 in their last ten games. In their most recent series, the Dragons went 1-2 at Beloit. In their 11 games against the Western Division, Dayton is 6-5.

2010 SEASON SERIES: These games will be the only three played between the Rattlers and Dragons during the 2010 regular season. Dayton is up 2-0 in the series.

2009 SEASON SERIES: The Rattlers were 2-4 in six games against the Dragons in 2009. The Rattlers were 1-2 at Fifth Third Field and 1-2 at Time Warner Cable Field.

COMPARE AND CONTRAST: The Timber Rattlers are hitting .242 as a team. They have scored 280 runs (4.5/game) and hit 30 home runs. The Dragons are hitting .257 as a team. They have scored 258 runs (4.2/game) and hit 41 homers. Wisconsin pitchers have a team ERA of 4.57 while allowing a total of 319 runs (5.1/game) this season. Dayton pitchers have a team ERA of 3.66 while allowing 282 runs (4.5/game). The Timber Rattler defense has committed 102 errors. The Dragons defense has committed 78 errors. Wisconsin is 13-21 at home this season. Dayton is 10-20 in road games this season.

DAYTON STARTING PITCHER: RHP Pedro Villarreal was the 7th round pick of the Reds in the 2008 draft out of Howard College. He spent his 2008 professional season and the start of the 2009 season with the Gulf Coast League Reds. In July of ’09 he joined Sarasota in the Florida State League. As a professional, Villarreal is 1-5 with a 4.15ERA in 16 games (8 starts). In his start prior to this afternoon, he lost to Clinton on June 6 and gave up four runs on five hits in five innings. Villarreal is making his first appearance against the Rattlers today. On August 2, 2009, Villarreal made a start for Sarasota at Brevard County, the Florida State League affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. He pitched five innings, allowed a run on three hits and struck out three in a no decision.
