August 14 game notes

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Rattlers beat Peoria 3-2. Wisconsin scored the first three runs and held on for the win. Edilio Colina homered, Juan Ramirez got the win, and Jeff Dunbar picked up the save.

THERE WAS A SLIGHT DELAY: Blake Ochoa had just singled with one out in the top of the third inning against Peoria starting pitcher Casey Coleman when lighting in the area forced the umpires to clear the field. Moments later, it began to rain. There was a 40 minute weather delay.

WHEN PLAY RESUMED: Maximo Mendez and Daniel Carroll each singled to load the bases.

WHAT DOUBLE PLAY: Denny Almonte’s grounder to second was booted. Instead of an inning ending double play, Ochoa and Mendez scored to give the Rattlers a 2-0 lead.

IT’S GREAT TO HIT HERE: Colina lined a solo homer in the sixth inning. He has four home runs this season. Two of his home runs are at O’Brien Field.

IT’S GREAT TO HIT AGAINST THEM: Colina has hit three of his four homers against Peoria. He has 14 of his 49 RBI against Peoria.

BACK IN THE TOP TEN: Colina has gone 9-for-16 in his last four games to bump his season average to .297. That batting average puts him at #10 in the Midwest League in that category.

GUTTING IT OUT: Ramirez waited out the delay and the long top of the third inning before getting back on the mound for the bottom of the third. He pitched 5-2/3 innings walked three, allowed five hits, struck out four, and gave up one unearned run.

IN RELIEF: Natividad Dilone allowed an inherited runner to score on a two-out passed ball, but worked 2-1/3 innings without a hit and struck out a pair.

A FIRST: Rattler closer Jeff Dunbar gave up his first run since joining the team. His scoreless streak had reached 13 innings before Luis Flores singled in a run in the bottom of the ninth.

STILL PERFECT: Dunbar got the final out to record his fifth save in five opportunities with Rattlers. Including his time with the Pulaski Mariners in the Appalachian League, Dunbar is 8-for-8 in save opportunities this season.

THAT’S A STREAK: The Rattler won their second straight game with last night’s victory. This is the first two-game winning streak for the Rattlers this month.

TRIFECTA? The Rattlers are going for a three-game winning streak tonight. Wisconsin has not won three games in a row in the second half. The last time the Rattlers won more than two games in a row was a five game win streak from June 2-6.
