ABOUT SUNDAY: The Kernels beat the Timber Rattlers 2-0. Garrett Richards struck out 11 Wisconsin hitters in six shutout innings and Casey Haerther’s two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning accounted for the only two runs of the game. Cedar Rapids swept the four game series at Perfect Game Field from the Timber Rattlers. The loss was the fifth straight by Wisconsin.

ARNETT UPDATE: Wisconsin starting pitcher Eric Arnett allowed two runs on six hits over seven innings. He also struck out six. The seven innings and the six strikeouts were new professional career highs for Arnett. He hit a batter and walked one. Monday was the second consecutive quality start for Arnett.

MR. FANTASTIC: Richards struck out 10 Rattlers in a 9-inning complete game at Time Warner Cable Field on May 9. In the game on Memorial Day, Richards struck out seven batters in a row. He struck out Michael Marseco to end the Wisconsin second inning. Richards struck out Kyle Dhanani, Franklin Romero, Jr., and D’Vontrey Richardson in order in the third. Then, he struck out Scooter Gennett, Khris Davis, and Chris Dennis in order in the fourth.

PRIZE TROUT: Kernels centerfielder Mike Trout had two hits, stole a base, and scored a run against the Rattlers on Monday. In 10 games versus Wisconsin this season, Trout is hitting .432 (19-for-44). He has scored nine runs and is 10-for-10 in stolen bases against the Timber Rattlers.

OFFENSE: Gennett and Dhanani each had a pair of hits for the Rattlers on Monday. It was the first multi-hit game of the season for Dhanani. Gennett now has 21 games with two more hits.

STREAKY: The Rattlers lost three in a row from May 19 to May 21. Then, they won five straight. Now, the Rattlers are on a five-game losing streak. This is the third losing streak of five or more games this season for Wisconsin.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS: The Fort Wayne TinCaps are the Midwest League affiliate of the San Diego Padres. In 2009, the TinCaps went 94-46 in the regular season. They were 45-25 to with the Eastern Division in the first half. Then, the TinCaps were 49-21 in the second half of the season. In the playoffs, the TinCaps defeated South Bend 2-1 in the first round and Great Lakes 2-1 in the Eastern Division Finals. Fort Wayne won their first ever Midwest League Championship by sweeping Burlington 3-0 in the Finals.

2009 SEASON SERIES: Wisconsin went 0-6 against the TinCaps in 2009. The Rattlers were 0-3 against Parkview Field last season in a series from July 28-30. Fort Wayne won 4-2, 4-3, and 9-2.

2010 SEASON SERIES: Due to the new Midwest League schedule in 2010, these three games at Fort Wayne are the only three games Wisconsin and the TinCaps will play in the regular season.

COMPARE AND CONTRAST: The Timber Rattlers are hitting .251 as a team. They have scored 239 runs (4.7/game) and hit 23 home runs. The TinCaps are hitting .252 as a team. They have scored 244 runs (4.7/game) and hit 24 homers. Wisconsin pitchers have a team ERA of 4.43 while allowing a total of 257 runs (5.0/game) this season. Fort Wayne pitchers have a team ERA of 3.77 while allowing 227 runs (4.4/game). The Timber Rattler defense has committed 85 errors. The TinCaps defense has committed 82 errors. Wisconsin is 6-16 in road games this season. Fort Wayne is 16-11 at Parkview Field this season.

PROSPECTING: Baseball America’s Prospect Handbook placed five members of the current TinCaps roster on the top 30 list of Padres prospects. Outfielder Everett Williams (#8) and infielder Edinson Rincon (#9) are both in the top 10. Outfielder Rymer Liriano (#14) and pitchers Jerry Sullivan (#19) and Dexter Carter (#29) are also on the list.

FORT WAYNE STARTING PITCHER: LHP Nick Greenwood was a 14th round pick of the Padres in the 2009 draft out of Rhode Island. He was 7-3 3.61ERA in 16 games (13 starts) in his final season with the Rams. Greenwood went 4-1 with five saves and a 1.71ERA in 17 games (nine starts) for the Eugene Emeralds and was named to the Northwest League Post-Season All-Star Team. He also made seven appearances (three regular season and four playoff) as a reliever for the TinCaps last year. In his start prior to tonight, Greenwood allowed one run on six hits over seven innings against Great Lakes on May 27. He was not involved in the decision. Tonight is the first time Greenwood will face the Rattlers and the first time he will face an affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers.
