Arne Thorsland was the winning pitcher in Game one. But, that wasn’t the story.
From Mike Drew’s story in the June 6 Post-Crescent:
[Earl] Weaver was tossed out of the game by home plate umpire Emil Cote in the seventh after Earl renewed an earlier dispute. Before he left, Weaver walked over to home plate and kicked dirt all over it.GAME TWO (NIGHT):
Field umpire George Sosnak threw out pitcher Pat Gillick a bit later. He accused Gillick of going into the clubhouse to get strategy from Weaver.

Here is the main excerpt from Mike Drew’s article in the Post-Crescent:
[Bert] Barth, who opened the season as the Foxes’ left fielder, probably clinched himself a spot in the regular pitching rotation with his great job on Sunday night. The sweep moved the Foxes to 19-13. They are in second place, one game behind Cedar Rapids in the Three-I League.
The handsome, 21-year-old right-hander struck out 11 and walked five and retired the last 14 men he faced in succession.

Two of the four hits for the Foxes were extra-base hits. Those two extra-base hits drove in all five Appleton runs.
Tom Forrester doubled with the bases loaded to give the Foxes a 3-2 lead in the third.
Jim Winters broke the 3-3 tie with a two-run triple in the bottom of the eighth.
Dave White replaced Ken Reed with one on and none out in the ninth inning. White allowed the inherited runner to score, but he picked up save #10. Reed picked up his fifth win of the season.
The win bumped Appleton's record to 36-16 and their lead over the Muskies to 5.5 games in the Northern Division of the Midwest League.
