Mike Wilson (WI '05) is featured today.
Rattler fans and the Mariners are glad that he did.Wilson, 6 feet 1 and 238 pounds, was a high-school All-American in football and basketball in Tulsa, Okla. A linebacker, he signed a letter of intent to play football at Oklahoma after recording 150 tackles and 10 sacks as a senior.
The Mariners lured him away from football, but his professional baseball career got off to a slow start. The first couple of years he was hampered by hamstring injuries. A switch-hitter, he was also having trouble hitting left-handed.
After two years of being stuck at the bottom level in Peoria, the Mariners' Arizona League team, Wilson made a big change: He gave up
switch-hitting.
