Mariner System Report (Games of 8/22)

Seattle (MAJ: 57-68; 4th AL West): The Mariners beat the Yankees 6-5. Cha Seung Baek (WI ’00) got the start and went five innings allowing three runs on three hits with six strikeouts for a no decision. Adrian Beltre hit a pair of homers, including a game winning solo shot in the bottom of the ninth.

Tacoma (AAA – 70-60; 2nd PCL Pacific Northern Division): Tacoma lost 7-1 to Las Vegas. Jon Nelson (WI ’03) hit his ninth home run of the season for the Rainiers only run. TJ Bohn (WI '03) got called up to Seattle and left the Rainiers without a true centerfielder in the game.

San Antonio (AA – 55-71; 28-30 second half 4th Texas League South Division): San Antonio beat Midland 3-2. Wladimir Balentien (WI ’02) hit his twentieth homer of the season to break a 2-2 tie in the fourth inning.

Inland Empire (High-A – 67-60, 28-29 second half; T-2nd California League South Division): Inland Empire beat High Desert 3-1. Josh Womack (WI ’05) had a pair of hits and a pair of RBI for the 66ers. Andy Baldwin, who was traded to the Mariners for Jamie Moyer, made his 66er debut and made it a good one. Ivan Blanco (WI ’05) pitched a scoreless ninth for the save.

Everett (Short Season-A – 28-34; 4th Northwest League West Division): Everett lost 8-4 at Salem-Keizer. Dean Zorn had a pair of doubles and an RBI, but the Sox were eliminated from playoff contention.

AZL M’s (Rookie – 24-25; 10-11 T-5th Arizona League): The Mariners lost 6-0 to the Angels.
