Game Notes for 8/19

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Rattlers beat the Dragons 7-5 in fourteen innings. Adam Moore had five hits, Eddy Hernandez had three RBI, and Juan Colon pitched two scoreless innings for the win.

LATE RALLY: The Rattlers trailed the Dragons 4-3 with two out and nobody on base in the top of the ninth inning against Damian Ursin. Stan Posluszny singled to right to start the rally. Hernandez worked the count to 3-2 and laced a double to left-center and Posluszny scored the tying run.

THE TWELFTH: Wisconsin scored a run in the top of the twelfth inning on a Ron Garth single that drove in Jeff Flaig. But, the Dragons scored a run in the bottom of the twelfth on an RBI single by Adam Rosales.

OUT OF THE JAMS: After the RBI single by Rosales tied the game, the Dragons loaded the bases with one out, but failed to score. Colon entered in the thirteenth and the game was tied 5-5. The Dragons again loaded the bases with one out, but Wisconsin pulled off an inning ending 5-2-3 double play.

FOR THE WIN: Robby Hudson reached on a fielder’s choice in the fourteenth, stole second, and went to third on a wild pitch and scored the go ahead run on a single by Flaig. Later in the inning, Flaig scored on a single by Moore. Colon pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the fourteenth to finish off the game.

CINCO de AUGUST: Moore became the first Timber Rattler to have five hits in a game this season. He doubled in the second, homered in the fourth, and singled in the sixth, eleventh, and fourteenth.

SUMMER OF EDDY: Hernandez is 43-for-198 (.280) with six homers and 23 RBI in 42 second half games. Last night, his fifth inning homer tied the game 3-3 and his ninth inning double tied the game 4-4. Hernandez was 43-for-198 (.217) with no homers and 22RBI on 58 games in the first half.

NEW GUY CHIPS IN: Posluszny had two hits and scored two runs in his Rattler debut last night.

IT TOOK A WHILE: Last night was the longest game in innings (14) and time (4:19) for the Rattlers this season.

GO PEN: The Rattler bullpen allowed one run over the final 7-2/3 innings. Five Rattler relievers gave up just four hits.

LOTS OF K’S: For the second night in a row the Timber Rattler offense set a season high for strikeouts. They struck out a total of 17 times last night.


OPPOSING STARTING PITCHER: Rafael Gonzalez was a fourth round pick of the Reds in the 2004 draft out of George Washington High School in Bronx, New York. He made ten appearances (five starts) and went 3-5 with an ERA of 9.35 for the Dragons last season. He began the 2006 season with the GCL Reds. Then, he made one start for Billings in the Pioneer League before rejoining the Dragons in Mid-July. In his last start, Gonzalez allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits over four innings against the Fort Wayne Wizards on August 14. Gonzalez walked four, struck out four, and took the loss in that game at Memorial Stadium. He has made one career appearance against the Rattlers. Last season, Gonzalez allowed six runs on four this in a one inning relief stint on May 8 at Fox Cities Stadium.
