Game Notes for 8/20

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Dragons snapped a five game losing streak with a 6-1 win over the Rattlers. Bobby Mosby hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning to give the Dragons a 2-1 lead.

RUNNING GAME: The Timber Rattlers had four runners caught stealing and one runner picked off first base in last night’s game.

PASSING GAME: Three Timber Rattler pitchers combined to walk eight Dayton batters last night. Starter Jose Escalona walked four over five innings. Cory Koliscak issued a pair of walks in two innings. Lance Beus worked an inning and walked one. Of the eight free passes, only two scored.

WELCOME BACK: Outfielder Kuo Hui Lo returned to the Rattler lineup for the first time since August 8. He had a hit, an outfield assist, and a stolen base in the game.

EARLY LEAD: Wisconsin got to Dayton starter Rafael Gonzalez early. Adam Moore doubled to start the top of the second and scored on a one-out single by Travis Scott. But, that was the only run of the game for the Rattlers.

LATE CHANCE: In the top of the eighth inning, Wisconsin had runners at first and third with one out and they were down just 4-1. But, Jose Rojas entered the game and recorded a strike-‘em out, throw-‘em out double play to end the last Rattler threat of the night.

MISSING: Last night was the fourth game in a row in which Timber Rattler batters have combined to strikeout more than ten times in a game. Three Dayton pitchers recorded eleven strikeouts in the game. Gonzalez got three over five innings. Logan Ondrusek had five K’s over 2-1/3 innings. Rojas recorded three in the final 1-2/3 innings.

NOT A STREAK: The Rattlers missed on a chance at their second straight road win by losing last night. Wisconsin’s longest road winning streak this season is three. They won the final three games of a series at Fort Wayne April 26-28. The Rattlers have won two consecutive road games only twice this half.

OPPOSING STARTING PITCHER: Carlos Fischer was an 11th round pick of the Reds in the 2005 draft out of Lewis & Clark College in Idaho. Fischer was 4-4 with an ERA of 4.19 in fifteen appearances (eight starts) for the Billings Mustangs of the Pioneer League in 2005. In his last start for the Dragons, Fischer went six innings and allowed just one run on six hits with a walk and three strikeouts, but got a no decision when the bullpen could not hold the lead at Fort Wayne on August 15. Today will be Fischer’s first appearance against the Timber Rattlers and against an affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.
