Milwaukee Brewer Report: Games of April 17, 2009

MILWAUKEE (MAJ: 3-7; T-5th National League Central): The Brewers lost 5-4 to the New York Mets. Ryan Braun hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning to give Milwaukee a 4-3 lead. But, Gary Sheffield hit his 500th career homer in the seventh to tie the game. New York scored a run in the bottom of the ninth for the win. JJ Putz (’00) pitched a scoreless top of the ninth to get the victory.

NASHVILLE (AAA: 4-5; 4th Pacific Coast League American North Division): The Sounds won 9-0 at New Orleans. Nick Green pitched six scoreless innings, allowed four hits, and struck out four to get the win. Nashville shortstop Alcides Escobar hit a three-run homer, his first Triple-A home run.

HUNTSVILLE (AA: 5-4; 1st Southern League South Division): The Stars beat Mississippi 7-6. Huntsville was down 6-3, but they scored two runs in the eighth and two more in the ninth for their fourth consecutive “walk-off” win. Juan Sandoval (’03) pitched two innings and had to bat in the bottom of the ninth. He dropped a sacrifice bunt and reached on an error. Sandoval would score the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Drew Anderson.

BREVARD COUNTY (High-A: 4-4; T-2nd Florida State League East Division): The Manatees beat Dunedin 12-3. Evan Anundsen struck out nine and allowed two unearned runs over 5-2/3 innings for the win. Brevard County hitters banged out 17 hits.
