Edwin Correa's return was good for the Foxes. Correa had been a part of the Appleton squads in 1983 and 1984. He started 1985 with Glens Falls in the Eastern League, but struggled. So, the White Sox sent Ed Sedar to New York and brought Correa back down to the Midwest League.

Correa struck out eight and walked five over six innings for the win that vaulted the Foxes into first place in the Northern Division of the Midwest League...more on that in a bit.

The Foxes scored four in the first inning, two of them on a triple by Jim Winters. Jerry Bertolani drove in three runs for the Foxes.

But, the story was Correa. From the Gary Shriver story:
"I have to say that I have somewhat mixed feelings about coming to Appleton again," said Correa. "But, I'm happy to be here. This is a nice town with great fans. It's like my hometown. I felt confident tonight. Everything was working. My curve and change were going great, and so was my best pitch, my fastball."
He did walk five showing one of the reasons for his transfer back to Appleton. The others: 1-5 6.75ERA, 35BB, 34K, 40IP in eight starts at Glens Falls. It all worked out though. Correa made the big leagues with the Sox on September 18, 1985.

Hato Rey, Puerto Rico is like Appleton, Wisconsin? I feel the need for a fact-finding mission after the season.

Also of note, as mentioned above, the Foxes caught and passed Madison for the Northern Division lead today in 1985. The Muskies had started the season 10-0 and at one point they were 16-2. But, the Foxes were always right there in the rear view mirror.

Madison lost 7-4 at Springfield to fall to 29-16 while the Foxes are now 29-15.
